The Burlington Police Department has a new service.
The Community Notification Service will allow the police department to send messages via e-mail or text messaging. The system will alert those who subscribe to the service of public safety alerts such as closed streets, accidents, or utility outages.

Citizens can subscribe to the service at www.nixle.com.
