Burlington Public Library's
BOOKENDS
Book Cart Drill Team

The team started on a whim when we read about another library that had a team. No original idea here. Little did we know that there is even a book about book cart drill teams (of course there is, we're librarians after all).

The Bookends made their debut at Burlington's Lighted Holiday Parade on November 28, 2003. The judges didn't give us any prizes, but we were the featured entry in the newspaper's coverage of the parade.

The team came out of the dark for its second appearance. The theme of the Steamboat Days Parade was "Rock and Roar 2004" so our designer extraordinaire Nancy Robinson turned our carts into lions (right)

Because the lions were so cute, we couldn't pass up the chance to show them off again at the West Burlington 4th of July parade. Still no prizes, but we are having a good time and getting the word out about the library.

.

We made it a whole year. The theme at our second Burlington Lighted Holiday Parade was "Dreaming of a White Christmas" so we did snowmen. Frosty even joined us. With such cute carts, we again decided to reuse them. This time as decorations for the Living Windows event held in downtown Burlington.
