Five unique and historic Burlington residences are

homes built between 1841 and 1895 will pique your curiosity about
life in days gone by.
The tour will be Saturday, September 24 from 10 am to 4 pm. and
Sunday, September 25 from noon to 4 pm. Tickets are $15 in advance
in Burlington at Weird Harold's, The Iowa Store, True Value, and
Hy-Vee on Agency until the day before the tour. Tickets can also
be purchased the days of the tour at any of the home locations.
One ticket admits to all tour homes.
The homes on this year's tour include:
- The Dave and Nancy Roed home at 523 S. Garfield.
This 1880 Italianate frame home, known for years as the "haunted
house," will show what can be accomplished when 2 creative,
hard working people research and bring the past to life.
- The Roane & Schulz home at 922 N. Third.
The precut lumber for the original 1841 home was floated down the
Ohio and up the Mississippi Rivers as a wedding gift for the couple
so they could enjoy the magnificent river view atop "King's
Hill."
- The Denise Powell home at 915 N. Third. This
Queen Anne home with its Gothic Revival touches is a "restoration
in progress." The former "Beacon House" is being
returned to a single family home by a determined woman with boundless
energy.
- The Greg and Shelly Jochims home at 800 N. Fifth.
This Colonial Revival house was built in 1895, and no expense was
spared in its construction. It was built for entertaining and is
now home to a large, energetic family.
- The Dr. James Small home at 1017 N. Fourth.
This notable red brick Italianate mansion built in 1874 also includes
a furnished carriage house which can be toured.
The Heritage Trust is an all volunteer, non-profit organization
dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Burlington's architectural
resources through education, action, and advocacy.
